You are listening to Friday's episode of The Archers from BBC Radio 4.

So, tonight is the night, is it? / Yeah. I think I've got all the facts and figures I need. / I should think you have. You've spent all week / on your pitch. / convince mom and dad. / It's not as if / still quite a lot, though / supper / be too nervous to eat. / You don't need to be nervous. You are so well-prepared. / everything covered. / how seriously you are taking it, they / cheque on spot. / Come on, now. I'm not expecting a miracle.

On you go. Oh, thanks for / That's OK. / remind you about No. 27 anyway. / I haven't forgotten. Keep ... milk separate. / That's right. I've put a tag on her. / Yeah I've noticed / So, how / Clarrie's birthday / coming along? / well / a bit of a hiccup / midweek / question of getting the timing right / Nic's managed / sort that out. / she's been brilliant / got / nothing for you to do then? / I wouln't say that. / Hi mom, Eddie. / Hiya Josh. You're looking forward to tomorrow's match? / the cup final. / Oh, yeah. / I thought you were a football fan, ... ... / I think / other things on his mind today. / Yeah. .... I didn't / milking / I'm not. Don't worry. I haven't forgotten / our meeting / dad / a hand / veg garden / he'll be in soon. / why don't you go and get yourself all set up? / I will. See you in a bit then. / I'm looking forward to it. / He's keen. / business proposition for us / Oh blimy. He / He's certainly enthusiastic. We just need to be sure he isn't trying to run before he can walk.

... ... ... gets everywhere. / Yeah. / You can see why you have to keep on top of it. / Yeah. I will try and get Ben / Josh used to be keen but. / Josh? No, no, no, no. He's,.... he's going for young business man of the year. He's far too grand to do ... weeding. / wonderful / to take on / egg business / Well, not quite all of it. / Neil did manage to talk him out of that. / You must be proud of your children at the moment, with Pip getting / placement in Yorkshire / she still needs to pass her exams / Of course. / to be honest / relieved / anything. / Sounds like it's a very good one, though. / it is / she deserves / last minute like that. / She's young. I know someone else who used to that. / I suppose so. Now I'm very pleased. / I know you've been worried about her, but young people go through these rebelious phases. All of you certainly did. / You and dad / a lot / put up now I look back on it. / not what / said at the time. / turned / good in the end / Yeah. Even Kenton / Now David. / Well, let's hope Pip's back on the right track now. / Well, I'm sure she is. / ..., that was tough. / very respectable pile. I think we've earned a breather. / good idea. I used / bench / in the vegitable garden. / a bit unusual / But over the years, I've come to see the sense of it. / so, you've been up at / today? / For lunch, yes. / how's the / going / very well, I think. It / quote for / getting on with it / very busy / wine week soon. Roy's working on ideas for that. / a good opportunity for him to showcase / wine / shop, I suppose. / and / yes it is. / I expect Roy's looking forward to the cricket this weekend. / I was talking to him about that. / did so well / last week / bill / over / cricket team would be interested in doing a flower arrangement in our festival. / You are casting your net wide. / That's what / Alen and I want / whole idea / Is there a patron saint of cricketers? / sure they could find one. Kenton's found one for the darts team. / What? A saint who play darts? / Not exactly. St. Sebastian. He was ... by being pieaced with / Only Kenton could have come up with that. / really good idea. He's looking for someone who ... him now. / Hi Jill. / Ruth / You two've been working hard. / bits / I'm afraid / Really? Only, Josh's all set up / this meeting / I think he's getting nervous. / You sure? / that's very kind of you, Jill / You mustn't keep Josh waiting, not when he's so keen.

This is really impressive, Josh. / You've obviously done your homework. / I had a long talk with Neil. / I can see that. / Yeah, you must have done. / gave me / good idea / structure of the busines: the outgoings, the income, / and the cash flow / Yeah, it's all here. / set it up very clearly. / projections so you can see what a good business proposition this is. / We've never had any doubts / your enthusiasm / or how seriously you take it. But, Josh, it is still a lot of work. / And I've been working hard at it for months now. My school work hasn't suffered / lot of / taking on / share of a business / even more work. / I know you enjoy helping your mom with her milking, and it will be a pity if you'd have to give that up. / I won't. / There are only so many hours in the day, Josh. / I'm prepared to devote all my free time to this. Honestly. I really want to / take this on. / I've got so many ideas. / All right. Well, why don't you tell us about them? / I've done a lot of research online, and there's evidence that hens / free range / regular access to fresh green pasture / produce more nutritious eggs. / that would be a good selling point. / Yeah. / Exactly. So, in the long term, I want to / just like we do / cows. / How do you mean? / moving / one area to another / more accesss to green grass / not just mud and earth. / I see / Then, you are right, mom. I can put / promotinal literature, not just free range, but free range on pasture. / That's a good slogan. / That's really inovative, Josh. / seems obvious, but / do / cows / that connection with your hens / My hens? Then you'd be prepared back me? / What exactly would that entail, Josh? / I presume we are talking about some kind of financial contribution. / I do have some of my own money to put into the business. / I've got seven hundred pounds saved up. / I know. / It's not enough though. The / share would be one thousand two hundred. / I see. / Well, that seems like a fair price. / It is. So, I wondered whether you might be / lend me / I'll pay it back, of course. / How would you do that? / Monthly installments / over how long? / Two years, at most. If  / more customers / eggs / it'll be sooner than that. / you could manage that / no point in doing this if you don't get any profit out of it. / either way. I've taken that into consideration. / I'm sure you have. / So, what do you think? / Well, I think, you've put forward a very good business case. / Yeah. / But your mom and I do need to talk it over between ourselves. / OK. I will leave you to it. / Right. / Oh, and if you need any more information to have ... decide,.... / we've got plenty / Thanks Josh. / thanks / OK. / I wish I had been that together when I was fifteen. / Absolutely. We seem to have given birth to the next Alan Sugar.

Josh. / Hi Phoebs. / How did it go? I've been waiting for you to ring. / It took longer than I thought. / Is that a good sign? / Not sure. / They really / go / into details / I'm sure you / sure / ready for them / yeah. The spreadsheet / really impressed / It did me. / about the pasture / I'm not surprised. It's a stroke of genious / try / the chance? Will they lend you the money? / talk it over. / Fair enough, I suppose. What do you think they'll decide? / I'm not sure / pretty impressed. / I told you they would be. / So, fingers crossed.

It's a serious proposition. And he's willing to put / No question. / But you've got some worries? / I don't like the idea of him puttin all his savings into it. / All his eggs in one basket. / Yeah. I mean, suppose / doesn't work out / That's the risk / any business, isn't it? / I suppose so. / at least he's prepared to put / is brave. / Yeah. / evidence of how comitted he is. / That's true. / And, really / incented to make it work, too. I mean, if / money / losing / some of it will be ours, and, three hundred pounds, well,... / Oh, hi Pip. Good day at uni? / I suppose you mean, did I get those assignments I had to retake / No. / Although now you mention it, did you? / Yes, as a matter of fact. Plus, I'm going to an extra revision class tomorrow even though it's Saturday / good / that's what I thought / So, can I borrow the land rover tomorrow? / I'm sorry / need / farm / morning / Dad, you said it was a good idea for me to go to this class. / Yeah, but I'm not the one who crashed your car, am I? / junction if you like. / Could you take me all the way? / No, she couldn't / own work to do / won't kill you / This is getting ridiculous. / Sorry, Pip .... / What am I supposed to do? / What? How about getting on / another car / I am. Spencer and I've actually / two possibilities. / That's good. / Only, they / quite a bit more / back / What a pity. / But it's the only way to get something decent. Dad. I need you at least to lend me the money. / How much are we talking about? / 8 hundred pounds / Eight hundred? / plus what I'm getting from the insurers. You really can't get anything worth driving for less. / Well,  / look / ourselves, of course / no / I'm sorry? / No. There must be cheapeer cars out there. / Dad,.... / Look, Pip. / been earning very good money, and instead of saving it, you have chosen to spend it all on holidays and going out / this is a consequence, isn't it? If you can't afford the car, you'll just have to find yourself a cheaper one. And that's that.
